McNesse was impressive in their 99-78 dismantling of UAB to begin the season, but now has to play on the road against a North Texas team that plays slow with tenacious defense, ranking 31st in points per possession allowed on defense and 32nd in opponent 3-point shooting percentage at 30.9%. McNesse is also a team with a strong defensive identity, ranking 25th in points per possession allowed on defense last season and led the nation in turnovers per possession generated on defense, but also shot 29.1% from 3-point range away from home.
Picks: North Texas Moneyline and Under 143.5 (Greg's Handicap North Texas -4.5 and Total 138.5)
Vanderbilt looked good in their 93-47 blowout of Bellarmine, that was a team that ranked 365th out of 365 Division I teams in points per possession allowed last season and now face a Wake Forest team that was 27th in opponent road 3-point shooting at 30.8% last season. Vanderbilt last season took 44.2% of their field goal attempts from 3-point range, which ranked 85th in the nation and were 97th in points per possession allowed on defense.
Wake Forest +17.5 and Over 155.5 (Greg's Handicap Wake Forest +10.5 and Total 164.5)
The Penn State defense was 348th in points per possession on defense and 357th in opponent 2-point shooting percentage last season and though they won and covered against Canisius to begin the season, this is a step up in competition. Chattanooga was 45th in 2-point shooting percentage, which went to 17th away from home last season and opened the season with a respectable 84-70 loss and are a team that doesn’t play at a rapid pace, ranking 266th in possessions per game last season.
Pick: Chattanooga +14.5 (Greg's Handicap Chattanooga +11.5)
Navy was absolutely waxed by George Washington by a score of 91-39 to open the season. but this is a significant step down in competition with Delaware State ranking 365th out of 365 Division I teams in points per possession on offense last season. Navy lost essentially all of their forwards from last season and much of the roster overall, but should win down low against a Delaware State team that was 305th in opponent 2-point shooting percentage last season and 332nd in defensive rebound percentage away from home with opponents grabbing 35.2% of their misses as an offensive rebound.
Pick: Navy -8.5 (Greg's Handicap Navy -15)
Princeton brings had a down year on offense, ranking 277th in points per possession last season on offense but return almost everyone back from a season ago while Hofstra was a top 100 offense in points per possession last season, but lost their top four scorers from last season. Both teams should also be able to run and execute their offense as Princeton was 328th in turnovers per possession generated last season while Hofstra was 295th.
Pick: Princeton -1.5 (Greg's Handicap Princeton -5.5)
Bryant appears to be much improved from a season ago as they defeated Siena 80-75 on Monday, but this is still a unit coming off of a 2025-26 season in which they were 320th in turnover per possession and 354th in points per possession on offense. Quinnipiac is a bit of a new look team and struggle in their season opening game against Michigan State, losing 96-59. The team was 50th in offensive rebound percentage and 28th in 2-point shooting percentage last season and return Keith McKnight, who had 11 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game.
Picks: Quinnipiac -4.5 and Under 150.5 (Greg's Handicap Quinnipiac -12.5 and Total 148.5)
Fordham's defense had a rough night to begin the season against Kansas on Monday in a 95-65 loss, but they now get to face a Stonehill team that was 357th in points per possession last season, albeit with many injuries including main guard Will Batchleder. Both teams play at a slow pace with Stonehill 247th in total possession per game last season and Fordham was 354th while and were 29th in rebound percentage and 50th in points per possession allowed on defense.
Pick: Stonehill vs. Fordham Under 143.5 (Greg's Handicapped Total 134)
Towson should be significantly better than their ranking of 349th in 3-point shooting percentage last season at 29.4% with the addition of Zion Stanford, who was limited to 10 games at Villanova last season after registering 13.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game on 34.9% 3-point shooting at 6-foot-5 two seasons ago at Temple. Towson is also the far better defensive team as Utah was 327th in points per possession last season had a narrow escape against Long Beach State to begin the season, winning 66-63 with a totally new look team from last season while Towson brings back much of a frontcourt from a unit that was 64th in points per possession on defense.
Pick: Towson +10.5 (Greg's Handicap Towson +6)
